However, we still intend to organise a few walks and are planning a 'Jubilee Walk' on Monday, 18th June. Click here for further details.
Only two people turned up for our monthly walk last Monday so we have regretfully decided to abandon our Walking Group due to lack of support. Lots of people seemed keen to walk but it was virtually impossible to find a day and time which suited everyone. We all lead such busy lives.
However, we still intend to organise a few walks and are planning a 'Jubilee Walk' on Monday, 18th June. Click here for further details.

Unfortunately, there weren't many attending the walk on the morning of 16th April - perhaps it was the typical April showers that had been forecast that kept everyone away but in actual fact it was a glorious morning - the showers came later. It was a lovely walk of about 6 miles up and around St Ives Country Park, down into Bingley then back up through Beck Foot Golf Club, the woods and back to Harden. A coffee stop was made at Stephen Smith's Garden Centre before returning to the centre of Harden.
After having suffered sub zero temperatures the previous week it was lovely to wake up to milder weather - 7 degrees seemed practically tropical! Seven of us plus 1 very clean fluffy dog set off and headed across Harden Moor and into St Ives Estate before ending up for refreshments at the local garden centre. We walked just over 5 miles. The 'warmer' weather, of course, meant the ice had turned into mud and Milly, that very clean fluffy dog wasn't quite the same girl she had set off as! I think it would be straight into the bath for her when she got home! The Walking Group set off as usual at 9.30 on Monday morning. Unfortunately, I was unable to go this time but I believe that 5 people plus 1 dog (as we have said, you don't have to be a member of WI to come along!) went along. It was a lovely walk if somewhat muddy!!
The next walk will be on Monday, 13th February. We had a lovely walk this morning as you can see from this photograph taken in St Ives. There were only four of us - what happened to the rest of you? Perhaps you were too busy preparing for the festive season or did the impending threat of bad weather keep you away? Never mind but we hope to see more of you all on our next walk in the New Year which will be on Monday, 9th January. Unfortunately I was unable to go on this walk starting from Cullingworth but I am told there were 6 participants and the weather was fine. Barbara, a Cullingworth resident, led the walk and took them around areas people didn't know existed in Cullingworth.
Our next walk is on Monday, 12th December starting at 9.30 am at our usual place outside the Fresh Approach shop in Harden. And don't forget - you don't have to be a member of our WI to come along. Please note that the walk next Monday, 14th November will be starting from Cullingworth Village Hall at 9.30am.
Monday 11th July was a busy day for Harden WI as we had the Walking Group, Culture Club and monthly meeting all on the one day!! The Walking Group started the day with a bus trip from Harden to Bingley but from there we walked along the canal to East Riddlesden Hall. We then became the Culture Club where we were joined by others who had driven down and we were treated to a wonderfully informative tour of the Hall as a follow up to the talk we were given at our monthly meeting in April about the Murgatroyds of East Riddlesden Hall. We had lunch at the cafe there before returning to Harden - the walkers hitching lifts with those who had driven down. And I forgot to say that as always (well, nearly!) the weather was kind to us!
We just had a few hours to catch up before it was time for our monthly meeting - an excellent talk on Humour and Humanity in the Law by Mr Reginald Le Pla. We do not have a monthly meeting or walking group in August but still have a couple of other events on our calendar - our regular annual August outing and a visit to Bardsey WI. Have a look at our Diary of Events page for more information. Unfortunately, we have had to cancel this month's walking group as there is no one available to lead it. But don't forget our next one on 11th July when we will be walking from Bingley to East Riddlesden Hall then joining the CULTURE CLUB for a guided tour. Hopefully there will be some kind souls who will drive us back to Harden afterwards!!
We had a wonderful walk yesterday morning and the threatened rain held off until well after we had all returned home. Being bluebell time we headed off into our local country park, St Ives, to hunt for bluebells and we were not disappointed as you will see from the pics below. I'm just sorry I can't add the fantastic aroma of a bluebell wood to this blog. Our next walk is on Monday, 13th June. |
